The most effective and easiest way to fix your car seat noise is to lubricate the metal of the seat such as the rails and screws. You can also tighten loose screws and nails within the seat.

Some Common Causes of Car Seat Noise 

Loose Screws and Nails 

The screws fitted to firmly hold the seat could be loosened. When this happens your seat will no longer be as stable as it used to be. This causes the seat to make a squeaking noise.

Lack of Lubrication

The springs connected to the base of your seat need adequate lubrication to stay smooth and function properly. If the oil is inadequate it can cause a squeaking noise when the spring metal hits against each other due to friction.

If you have an old car the seat may start to make squeaky noise because its components are old, rusty, and worn out.

  How to Fix a Car Seat Noise in 9 Easy Steps

1. Replace the Spring Net 

The spring net is situated on the seat. It can be the cause of the squeaking noise when it’s old and rusty. So when you experience this issue try to remove the spring net from the car and sit on it. If you realize that the spring net was the reason for the noise, then you need to replace the old spring net with a new one.

2. Lubricate Metal Parts

The noise may arise from the car seat and spring due to inadequate lubrication oil. Lubricate the base of the seat with a tight-laced lubricant like the WD-40 and see if the noise stops. It is better to spray the lubricant on the screws and rails that put the seat down. If the sound stops then you have gotten a solution to the problem and know how to go about it if it happens in the future. 

Items You Need to Get Going 

WD-40 lubricant 

To use the lubricant, you need to clean and jerk the surface of the seats.  After cleaning the surface, spray the lubricant on the squeaky spots.  When you are done eventually,  allow the seat to dry before using them. This will help prevent the squeaking noise.

3. Tighten Loosen Screws 

If you can inspect to key out the loose screws, then try to tighten them yourself. However, if you don’t know how to go about it, you can take your car to a mechanic.

But if you want to tighten it yourself, then this is what you will need to get going.  Phillips head screwdriver and Flathead screws driver.

Look out for loose screws on the seat. There can be several of them, so you need to take your time and check out the entire seat. Use the Philips head screwdriver to tighten loose screws. Be careful not to tighten the screws too much as it may damage the seat. If you are finding it too difficult to reach the screws, you should use the flathead screwdriver. 

4. Work on the Seat Belt 

The belt pre-tensioner or female part of your seat belt can be the cause of the squeaky noise from the seat. The moderate movement of your seat belt while driving can also create the squeaky you hear on the seat. So the next time you hear noise while driving, hold onto the seat belt or shift it a little bit and see if the squeaky noise will stop.

5. Choke Up a Cloth Between the Seat Back and Pad

The squeaking noise you hear might be a result of a  structural problem. A small gap between the seat back and the seat pad. The best way to solve this problem is to use a cloth to choke up the inside of the gap. You can also try to get down the head restraint onto the seat back. This will help in the prevention of squeaking noise. It is advisable to put the cloth first and check whether it solves the problem or not. If it doesn’t stop the issue, then try to bring down the head restraint. 

6. Car  Suspension System Problems

The squeaky noise from your car might be coming from the car’s suspension system. which you perceive as the eat noise. In this instance, no seat solution method can fix this problem, Because there are so many issues at play. If you exhaust all the seat solution methods and the noise hasn’t stopped it’s advisable to take your car to a professional mechanic. 

7. Use a Patch

If the leather on your car seat is faulty you can attempt to patch it. This will help cover the fault and prevent air and dust from getting in. You can get leather patches at any automotive store near you.

This is what you need to get going 

  • A leather patch
  • A scissor
  • Glue 
  • Paper towel 

Before you start you need to clean the surface of the leather seat and rub some alcohol on it. let it dry completely. Cut a piece of the leather than the fault. Then use a thin layer of glue on the back of the patch and put it over the fault. Rub your fingers on the patched area to make sure it sticks properly.  Allow the glue to dry completely. 

8. Use Talcum Powder

Talcum is one of the long-old methods in the books for stopping squeaking noise from your leather seat. It helps create a thin blockade between the seat and the person sitting on it, this helps prevent the squeaking noise.

9. Replace the Seat 

If your car is old with the seats worn out then you will have to replace them with a new one.Even though this is a costly method it will help stop the squeaking noise on your seat.

Things you will need to get going are a Philips head screwdriver and a flathead screwdriver. 

Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove screws that lock up the old seat in place. If you are finding it difficult to reach some of the screws, use the flathead screwdriver. Cautiously take the old seat. Disconnect any cable that is attached to the old seat. Fasten the new seat in the same place the old one was and reinstall the screws. Try out the seat to make sure the seat is suitably fixed.
