Electric Scooter Charger Noise Causes and Fixes

Do you hear weird noises emanating from your scooter charger? Does it make high-pitched whistling noises or ultrasound? This is a common problem in most chargers.

Noisy scooter chargers may not only be annoying but they also indicate underlying problems with your charger.

Some of the easiest ways to get rid of the noises in your scooter charger are to; check out the power source, inspect the charging ports of your scooter and inspect the condition of your charger.

We will discuss this in detail and some of the possible causes of the noise in your scooter charger as well as some doable DIY techniques to help you fix this problem quickly.

Why is Your Scooter Charger Making a Whistling Noise?

The whistling noise from your scooter charger is due to the vibrations created as a result of the transformation of alternating current into direct current in the transformer inside your charger. However, the high-pitched noise which resembles an ultrasound is mostly created by the vibrations beneath the excitation of the magnetic field.

This is a common phenomenon that occurs in most electronic devices but this principle is not often heard.

Potential Causes of the Noise in Your Scooter Charger

1). Using a low-quality charge

Nearly all inexpensive chargers are poorly designed and use uninsulated materials, components, and assembly techniques. Apart from the strong vibrations of the components, the insulations are also less effective. As a result, scooter chargers will make a much louder noise.

Also, make sure to look out for incompatible chargers that do not use the right charging capacity and which tend to create high-pitched noise over time.  Bear in mind that the higher the power of your charger, the more likely you will hear a loud hissing noise. You may also hear a much louder noise if you use a fast charger.

2). A Manufacturing Defect or Oversight

Whether you use an original or fake charger, the manufacturing tolerance differs from one person to another even though they may seem identical. A slight machining defect or a component that wears out quickly can intensify the whistling noise.

If you are using a genuine scooter charger but you still hear a disturbing whistling noise, then you need to contact the company’s technical support service for a hardware diagnosis. Depending on the severity of the problem, they may replace your whistling device.

3). A False Contact Charging Port

Sometimes the problem may be from your scooter. The false contact may eventually develop into a short circuit, which may not only induce noise but also damage your device over time. If this is the case, then you need to inspect your scooter for false contact.

4). A Defective Power Source

In most instances, the cause of the noise can be from charging sockets. So you will need to check out your charging socket to prevent short circuits.

Bear in mind that a very loud noise from your scooter charger that intensifies or comes along with odd noise such as a strange smell, overheating, or charging can be due to malfunctioning or an abnormal cause, in this case, you need to repair the problem immediately to avoid any risk.

What to Do When Your Scooter Charger Makes Noise

1). Inspect your power source

Sometimes your power source may be the cause of the hissing noise in your scooter charger. This can occur as a result of voltage fluctuations or poor contact.

Try plugging your charger into a  different outlet. However, if you are still hearing whistling noise from your scooter charger then there is a problem with your charging device.

On the other hand, if the noise disappears then it means there is a problem with the main sockets or outlet. If this is the case then you need to contact a certified electrician to check out your electrical installation.

2). Check Out the Condition of Your Scooter Charger

If you hear a hissing noise from the scooter charger itself. You can inspect it by plugging your scooter with a different scooter charger. If you notice the charger is the source of the nose and you can’t stand the noise Then you should consider replacing your charger.

It’s very necessary to replace your whistling scooter charger especially if you are no longer using the original charger. This is because most off-brand chargers are of poor quality and do not meet safety standards.

If you make up your mind to replace your charger, ensure to purchase a compatible or original charger to prevent you from coming across larger malfunctioning issues such as slow charging, overheating, and noises.

How to Determine an Original Charger

To buy a compatible scooter charger you need to check out the power( Watt) and the amperage(TO). These two values should be the same or more than your original charger.

For instance, if your original charger is 2.5 amps it should be not replaced with a scooter charger which only provides 2 amps of current. In most cases an incompatible charger delays its charging time it takes a very long time to charge, then it’s plausible it is undercharging and it is therefore incompatible.

To buy an original scooter you will need to buy back an original charger from your scooter brand company or supplier. In most instances, an original charger will guarantee quality, safety, and  12 month warranty. In every instance ensure to avoid counterfeit chargers.

Apart from using poor quality components and materials, most counterfeit or poor quality chargers do not follow the national regulations and intern pool-quality standards. Poor-quality chargers can damage and affect the performance of your scooter.

3). Inspect the Charging Ports of Your Scooter

When the noise in your scooter persists even when you use a different charger then the charging port of your scooter may have a problem. In this case, we recommend you contact the technical support service of your scooter brand to diagnose the problem, that’s if it’s still within the warranty period. You can also call up a repairman specializing in electronics to help you troubleshoot the issue.

Conclusion

Noisy scooter chargers can be extremely annoying and can also pose serious damage to your scooter and affect its performance. luckily enough we have discussed some of the causes and solutions in the above article to help you fix the noise in your scooter charger. Read the article carefully and stick to the procedures to help you achieve the best results.
